In this lesson, you learn how to make simple invitations in English. You learn words and sentences to ask people to do things with you.

🧠 Grammar Focus

We use ‘Would you like’ to ask someone to do something. It is polite and friendly. The sentence is: Would you like + verb (base form). Use it to invite friends. Another way is ‘Do you want to’ + verb. Both are questions to invite. Remember, after ‘Would you like’ always use the base verb, like ‘eat’, ‘come’, or ‘play’. For example: ‘Would you like to eat?’ Not ‘Would you like eating?’. Here are some examples: Would you like to come? Do you want to play? Would you like to drink tea? Do you want to go? Would you like to see a movie?

On utilise ‘Would you like’ pour inviter quelqu’un à faire quelque chose. C’est poli et amical. La phrase est : Would you like + verbe à l’infinitif. Vous pouvez aussi dire ‘Do you want to’ + verbe. Ce sont des questions pour inviter. Après ‘Would you like’, utilisez toujours le verbe à l’infinitif comme ‘eat’, ‘come’ ou ‘play’. Anna wants to invite her friend Tom to her house. She calls Tom and says, ‘Would you like to come to my house today?’ Tom is happy. He says, ‘Yes, I would like to come.’ They plan to eat pizza and watch a movie. Anna is excited. She says, ‘Do you want to watch a movie after dinner?’ Tom says, ‘Yes, I want to watch a movie.’ They have good plans for the day.
