Use ‘these’ for things close to you. Use ‘those’ for things far from you. Both words are for plural nouns. Use this structure: ‘These are …’ or ‘Those are …’ A common mistake is to use ‘these’ for far things or ‘those’ for near things. Look at these books (near). Look at those cars (far). These apples are red. Those dogs are big.
